Wall Street closed down on low volume and profit taking

The US stocks market closed with losses on Tuesday as investors are on holiday mood and the market held a quiet session. Consumer Sentiment registered a lower than expected number in December, but the index kept its mojo.

All sectors closed lower on the day. Stocks were pressured by the Utilities sector (-1.82%), followed by Telecomm (-0.95%) and Energy shares (-0.71%). The Dow closed below the 18,000 mark.

The Russell 2000 declined 0.50% to 1,213.04; The Dow Jones lost 0.31% to 17,983.07; the S&P 500 finished at 2,080.35 after falling 0.49%.
