Session Recap: US Dollar declines ahead of Bernanke as bulls are cautious

FXstreet.com (San Francisco) - The Greenback traded lower on Thursday as investors are awaiting the Ben Bernanke congressional testimony of Wednesday. Both stocks and USD buyers are in wait and see mode as they are afraid Bernanke will be rally killer in the stocks' field but USD fuel in the currency market.

In this frame, The EUR/USD consolidated positions above the 1.3150 and it closed at 1.3165 and the GBP/USD advanced to trade above 1.5150. However, the USD/JPY lost all Monday's gains with the pair declining from the 100.00 area to close the day just shy of 99.00.

The USD/CAD lost last two session gains with the pair dropping from 1.0440 to close the dat around 1.0370. The AUD/USD rallied on the day as the pair jumped from sub 0.9100 levels to close at 0.9250.

Despite the AUD/USD has finished the U.S. session above the 20-day EMA, the first time that happens since April 30th, Niall O'Connor, FX Strategist at JP Morgan Securities, still thinks "the late-week breakdown in AUD/USD suggests the bearish bias is likely to extend into the coming week."
