FXStreet (London) - George Akerlof, husband of newly-installed Fed chair Janet Yellen has announced that he has stepped down from the advisory board at the UBS International Center of Economics in Society at the University of Zurich.

His resignation follows questions over conflicts of interest on Yellen’s appointment to the Fed top job.

In comments to the Wall Street Journal today, Akerlof, the Koshland Professor of Economics at the University of California said: “My service on this board is wholly academic in nature and is uncompensated,"

Adding: “There is no actual conflict of interest. However, to avoid even the appearance of a conflict, I have stepped down from the academic advisory board."
